Cabinet Meeting October 2018

Council Cabinet Meeting - October 2nd 2018

A large part of this Cabinet Meeting was devoted to the proposal to develop a new library strategy. It included confirmation of the earlier announcement by the Mayor that all 27 libraries will remain open on existing hours until April 2020. The intention is to hold discussions with community groups in each area about what they want from a library service and how they feel that can best be provided. This consultation process will be launched on November 7th and is intended to be completed by March 2019.

Concerns were raised at the meeting that this approach might lead to piecemeal library provision, rather than a coherent city-wide library service, but the Mayor commented that they were trying to avoid the "one size fits all" approach and respond to the differing needs of each area.
